Protective Equipment
Gloves
are mentioned on this site from time to time. One of the things that students tend to do that is a serious mistake is to use gloves to protect themselves from the heat of sanding, grinding, or even drilling. Gloves should not be used around moving parts or equipment. The reason being that they can become caught up in the machine. Instead of losing a small bit of skin, bones can be broken or fingers removed.

Tips
When a torch backfires or pops out with a screeching sound, shut off the oxygen valve immediately. Then shut off the acetylene valve and relight and adjust the flame.
Avoid confined areas and positions so you can work freely without endangering yourself or others.
Adjusting screws on the regulators should be released when not in use. Turn the screw out counter clockwise. Screw the proper protective cover on the tank intended. Place on tank when not in use to protect the valve. Never tamper with the fusible safety plugs.
Never allow a cylinder to fall. They are under high pressure internally and can explode if ruptured by a sudden shock. Secure cylinder to a stationary object.
